Panting and out of breath, I made my way through the dense undergrowth. There was someone or something following me, I could sense their eyes scorching my back. As I blindly made my way towards safety in the pitch black of the night, a large protruding root snagged my foot and I tripped. The fall caused a sharp rock to jab into the palm of my hand and a mute groan of pain bubbled up in my throat.
I slowly started to move again, on my hands and knees, groping the ground before me so I wasn’t stabbed at once more. A clearing was coming into view and I stood up, breaking out in a sprint through the brush.
‘Only about three more feet until I’m free!’ My mind was dizzy with the idea of finally being away from this haunting feeling. Just as I broke through an over-sized, tangled mess of a bush, I was stopped short in my steps.
A figure stood before me, the moon casting shadows so his eyes were the only visible shapes. Then, as if the wind had blown it towards me, there was a whisper.
‘Molly…’
